REVEALED: Liverpool & Manchester United splash out over £27m combined on agents' fees

Liverpool and Manchester United spent a combined total of over £27 million on agents’ fees in the past year, figures released by the Premier League confirm.

United embarked on a major recruitment drive in the summer, acquiring the likes of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin and Anthony Martial in a spending spree worth over £100m.

And new figures confirm that, in the process of reinforcing their squad, Louis van Gaal’s side paid £13.8m to players’ representatives.

Liverpool, meanwhile, paid out the most - £14.3m - as they recruited Christian Benteke, Adam Bogdan, Nathaniel Clyne, Roberto Firmino, Joe Gomez, Danny Ings and James Milner.

Elsewhere in the Premier League, Manchester City spent £12.4m on agents’ fees as they acquired such stars as Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling, while both Chelsea and Arsenal spent over £11m.

The figures account for the period between October 1 2014 and September 30 2015, with West Ham the next biggest spenders – paying out £7m – and AFC Bournemouth the most frugal, parting with a mere £2.3m.

In total, Premier League clubs spent £129.8m.
