With a grand total of 59 goals in all competitions last season, Luis Suarez outstripped even Lionel Messi and Neymar at the summit of Barcelona’s scoring charts. He has started campaign 2016-17 in equally impressive form, netting seven times in as many outings to suggest that he once again stands a great chance of being the most productive of the famous MSN trio.

Wearing his adidas X boots, he has struck four times already in La Liga, including an opening-weekend hat-trick against Real Betis. 

On Wednesday, however, the Uruguay international star was unable to find the target when he came face-to-face with Atletico Madrid and their Ballon d’Or outsider Antoine Griezmann with his PUMA evoSPEED boots. 

The France international star also has four goals to his credit in Spain’s top flight in as many matches, having shown few signs of a hangover after Euro 2016 disappointment with Les Bleus in the summer. Indeed, prior to the midweek meeting with Barca, he had bagged successive doubles against Celta Vigo and Sporting Gijon in two comprehensive victories.

Those contributions have helped his evoSPEEDs into fourth spot in the rankings for boots worn by strikers in La Liga. Suarez’s adidas X brand, meanwhile, is second.

On Wednesday, it was Griezmann who seemed to have the better of things in the 1-1 draw played out at Camp Nou, though neither of the superstars were able to find the net. 

The former Real Sociedad forward was the player in his side who had the most touches of the ball, with a total of 69, and with those he made 54 passes. 

Suarez, by contrast, was a little quieter. He only saw 41 touches of the ball, of which he played 28 passes. However, he created two opportunities for his team-mates in comparison to Griezmann’s one.

It was a match that was out of character for both strikers, though, as neither really offered a particular threat on goal. The Uruguay ace’s adidas Xs failed to register a single shot on target, while his rival’s evoSPEEDs got just one.

Atleti lived up to their stingy defensive reputation and levelled on the hour mark as Angel Correa equalised Ivan Rakitic’s first-half strike to secure a draw.
